My Grandfather Killed Indians (and here I worry about turning the light off when I leave the room)

By Thomas Kenning

Captain James Parker (1617-1701) was a prominent Puritan leader in Groton, a town that he helped to carve from the empty wilds of seventeenth century Massachusetts.  Of course, we know that that wilderness was not so empty – and when its Native American inhabitants tried to defend their claim, Captain James did not hesitate to defend his, with lethal force.

It turns out that Captain James is my grandfather twelve generations removed.

A personal/historical zine sketching a family history from Puritan New England, through the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the twentieth century, with original pen and ink portraits of my American ancestors, from 1634-present.

BUY: My Grandfather Killed Indians (28 pages, full color, hand-stitched binding): $3.00.
